Overview

**PROTOTYPE - NOT FOR OPERATIONAL USE.** For official river flood forecast information, visit https://water.weather.gov/ahps/forecasts.phpThe SAFER Flood and Hazard Viewer has been designed to be an all-inclusive GIS-web application that displays a multitude of necessary tools and geo-spatial datasets needed to analyze and assess numerous weather hazards and heavy rainfall occurrence and resultant river flooding hazards. The application allows for rapid assessment of current conditions and near-term future hazards, especially viewing river flood extents for minor, moderate, major, and record flooding levels. An emergency manager with proper authentication can access these extents to see what areas of their jurisdiction are most at risk during flooding episodes and take the necessary mitigation steps for response and coordination. The application is a GIS tabbed web application that displays looping radar, small river basins, the national hydrography dataset, 1-hour/3-hour MRMS rainfall accumulations and links to the USGS streamer application where one can determine upstream and downstream water traces on the fly. All the data used is from open-sourced information across multiple government agencies.
