OverviewLeeNew YorkPennsylvaniafloodhurricanetropical stormweather
From September 6-15, 2011, extreme rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee caused devastating flooding across parts of the Mid-Atlantic.Occurring just two weeks after Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on the area, the floods of Lee reached levels in New York and Pennsylvania which had never been seen before, and in some places, were rivalled only by floods of the notorious Hurricane Agnes nearly 40 years prior. As we look back on the historic floods of Tropical Storm Lee, let us review how the storm unfolded and listen to the stories of the floods, as told by some of the weather and river forecasters and water managers who were on duty during those fateful days.
