Development of a reliable, cost-effective real-time, riser integrity, management system by closing technology gaps that include: availability of historical riser data for assessment of long-term integrity management of deepwater riser systems; on-board subsea equipment controls to detect anomalous behavioral modes and implement mitigation strategies; essential safety management system/software for riser system integrity data storage, riser performance and user interface for management solutions encompassing hardware, software, processes and people. The research was conducted in four stage-gated phases. Design and development of a new concept with the assistance of key end-users to develop requirements for system design that will build and test of a small scale subsystem, preliminary design for software and business process system integration (TRL1). Development of a full-scale pilot for an integrated deepwater riser integrity management system, and a full-scale pilot test (TRL3) Development of a production plan for a commercially viable deepwater riser integrity management system that can be used for retrolift or new unit installation (TRL3-4) The project is complete and it is anticipated that industry will carry the research to a commercialization stage (TRL5-6)
